Why did they make the brother and dogyeong sister ex's ??? I feel that so unnecessary

its like they added that so just seohan has a valid reason to know the sister? its doesn't match the brother's or the sister's character setting so far (before that chapter) it feels kinda forced. i could imagine them as information partners ( he got dirt from seohan's former company from her) not romantic partners .
I guess the author notices theres not much toxicity so he added r*pe to balance it out.
