I don't know if I have the best explanation of it, but in a nutshell it's like a love triangle, Two guys in a gang, and a regular civilian. The MC ends up with the dude from the gang (but he left it for him later on), which people hate. Me personally, I liked the option of him dating the dude that wasn't in the gang but then I just wished he didn't get with either of them and just lived for himself

Wet sand is not a love triangle. Wetsand is about TJ and Ian, 2 orphan kids that got the short end of the stick in life. They end up falling deeper and deeper into the underworld for survival. Ian was openly gay in a homophobic gang. While TJ had to hide his bisexuality. They were in love with one another but couldn’t be out in the open because of their environment. Ian couldn’t handle the violence of the underworld and wanted out of the gang, whereas TJ thrived and grew to love the money and power his position afforded him. Both grew up without the guidance of a proper adult, so they never knew how to properly communicate or show love to one another. This cause both to misunderstand each other. Ian just wanted to live a normal life outside the gang with TJ, but Ian thought TJ didn’t love him enough to give up everything for him. TJ thought Ian only stayed with him out of guilt. Throughout their story Ian has attempted to leave several times, but ultimately couldn’t. He went to jail for murder and was able to leave the gang then. TJ and Ian continued to meet up for sex and had an “open relationship.” (They never officially dated, but had an understanding) When the higher ups in the gang started to take action to get rid of TJ, ian felt compelled to come back and fight alongside TJ, but TJ finally decided to let Ian go for his safety. He thought since Ian didn’t love him and things were getting complicated that he would grant Ian’s wish of leaving the gang life behind and letting him move far away. So TJ left thinking Ian would take this opportunity to leave but Ian didn’t. He stayed to look for TJ and got sucked back into the gang drama. This led them to have their separation arc where Ian tried to move on from TJ with Jo. Jo worked across the street from Ian’s apt. He fell in lust at first sight. They went on a few dates where Ian told Jo he only pursued him for a one night stand but Jo wouldn’t accept that. Even though Jo knew Ian was still in love with TJ, he still pursued Ian disregarding the threats to his life and his family’s safety. Ian told him multiple times that being around him was dangerous, but Jo didn’t care. He agreed to be Ian’s fuck buddy as long as Ian only slept with him. He took the opportunity when TJ wasn’t around to stick to Ian like glue. Even though he knew Ian wasn’t fully invested in their relationship, Jo practically moves himself in with Ian. Ian was sad and lonely because of TJ’s disappearance so he took solace in Jo’s company, but he never forgot about TJ. Jo showed Ian the normal everyday life Ian has always wanted with TJ. Ian got to live the life he’s always wished for, he had the opportunity to move far away and finally be free from the gang world, but he didn’t. He stayed to look for TJ, while living in a bubble with Jo. Until that bubble finally popped and reality kicks back in. And he is forced to finally go after what’s in his heart.

Why do you feel as if it's not a love triangle?
In order for a love triangle to be convincing, the MC needs to feel conflicted about who to choose or who he loves more. Not once has Ian prioritized/chose Jo over TJ. The only time Ian pursued Jo was in the beginning where he wanted a one night stand. And once again to apologize on behalf of TJ. Afterwards it was always Jo pursuing/reaching out to Ian and not accepting Ian’s decision to end it as a one night stand. He pushed to be friends, then pushed to be fuck buddies. It was only after TJ left that he even consider anything with Jo. The camping scene showcased this. Ian wanted to check and see if he could forget about TJ when he’s with Jo. That’s why before kissing him, Jo asked Ian if he saw him, because Jo didn’t want to be TJ’s replacement. But as ian came he remembered what TJ said. Think of me when you cum.
Ian had the life he always wanted with Jo, but how does Ian spend that time? He went around searching for TJ while constantly having to convince himself that TJ didn’t love him anymore, that he wasn’t even a card worth using against TJ. He was off doing side quest looking for Chris and befriending Toby. Toby told Jo Ian looked lonely. Why would Ian look lonely if Jo was living with him at the time. Even Jo himself admitted that Ian was never fully present while they were together. Jo was even scared to tell Ian he got accepted into college because he knew his time with Ian would come to an end because he wasn’t convinced Ian even liked him. When Jo eventually asked Ian to come with him who was the first person he considered. It was TJ, then himself and Jo was the last person he wanted to leave for. Even when he finally saw that flower shop, he thought about how Jo likes flower but didn’t even buy him any!!! When Jo found him back at the campsite and push for them to leave together, what does Ian do, he went back to his apartment for his couple jewelry with TJ!!! Time and time again Ian shows how his heart is bound to TJ. Willing to lose life and limbs for TJ. Sacrifice his wants and needs for TJ. Idk how any one can read wet sand and think that Jo even had a chance to end up with Ian. I thought the only way that would happen is if TJ died, but when I read that the author said that no one was dying it was clear since season 1 that TJ was going to be endgame.
At one point I wished all 3 characters ended up alone just like you. But that’s before I realized that Ian truly loves TJ. What Ian always wanted was a normal life with TJ away from the gang. And TJ wanted a life with Ian at the top of the gang. Ultimately they both wanted a life together and they both love and care for each other. It was always mutual between them. It’s a shame that they spent all these years fighting for survival because they got dealt some bad cards at life and had to take a 20 year detour only for them to not get a chance at a normal life together. At the end of the story both Ian and TJ got what they both truly wanted and I’m happy that they’re happy.

Unfortunately I can relate so much to him because this is how I was after I broke up with my ex I couldn't eat, go out, I wouldn't even talk to people for weeks. Reaching out and trying to contact him only made it worse, I feel as if it does take time, you just need hobbies to distract yourself, or surround yourself with new people. It sucks cause even though it's been about a year, I still think about him, but the hurt isn't there anymore, it's more of just a part of my life I don't wanna go back to.
