I'm sorry, but what did he do? Supiiie

    What didn't he do?

Now this isn't to say Ian and TJ are off the hook, those two are also pieces of work (and at the end Ian and Jo were equally getting on my nerves)

Let's start with his contious efforts of forcing his way into Ian's life. After their date was cut off and their shallow interactions were done (because at that point they just had small conversations with little to no substance), Jo found out that Ian was not only carrying out several casual and sexual relationships, but that he only wanted Jo as a one night stand AND proceeded to not only be upset at Jo for it, but project the delusion he had about their dynamic onto Ian. He kept pushing what HE wanted onto their situationship simply because he found Ian attractive, without little regard or intent to actually know Ian or understand his intentions. Jo Is the typical guy that tries to force a relationships simply because he wants to — the "I can fix him" issue.

It's the theme carrying out between Jo and Ian throughout the series, and don't get me started on what actual red flags he has.

    Fine, I'll go there.

Jo seems to have a habit of not listening to the people around him because he thinks he knows what's best for everyone, which led him to endanger himself for the sake of "being there for Ian" because he wanted to change/fix him into being in a relationship. He's also very manipulative towards Ian (which ends up being a reason Ian found him attractive—it's a trait Jo and TJ share) whenever he does something for him, be it "good" or "bad"; it started when he suggested they be friends and kept coming up whenever something happened that Jo didn't like. A big example of this was when Jo told Ian to let him stay by his side simply because he had "feelings" for Ian, that he didn't care what Ian did with other people only to be jealous and possessive afterward, telling Ian to not have sex with anyone else shortly after. Then when he told Ian TJ gave him money and a camera to apologize AND after Ian killed the man that was following him Is another example of this as well.

This last example is more complicated because there's nuance to both Ian's and Jo's sides, so let's stick to Jo for now. After he left the man lying there (which was his own decision, btw. Let's not blame others for his personal decisions), he went running to Ian understandbly upset and made it seems like it was Ian's fault that he left the man to die. Jo's insistence of being with Ian put him in unpleasant situations that he then later used to manipulate Ian with.

THEN we have his jealousy and possessiveness. Jo was jealous and possessive even before he and Ian were intimately involved, which Is what led to them having sex the first time — him pretending to be Ian's boyfriend was not some innocent act to get that other guy to back off. This was used in the beginning as a tool for the most important moment in Jo's journey with Ian: him nearly killing Jamie. What started as dreams of Ian and TJ together that made him not leaving Ian alone for extended periods of time, led him to attempt murder. What Is really important to note here Is that sure, he had Jamie at gunpoint in Ian's apartment, but was reluctant about pulling the trigger. It's interesting how Ian being tied and beat up was not a good enough reason for him to shoot Jamie, but Jamie saying he should've had sex with Ian was the thing that made Jo want to kill. Why was It that Ian potentially dying was not a good enough reason for Jo, but the thought of other people having sex with Ian was what he could not accept?

Jo never saw Ian as a person, he only saw Ian as something he wanted to have. He didn't see WHO Ian was, he only saw what he wanted Ian to be. They're people shaped by entirely different environments, and the differences were so fundamental that they were never meant to work out and Jo refused to see and accept It. How do I know? He never bothered to really get to know Ian; as we saw, Ian's someone deeply troubled, he has a dark past and Jo never asked him ANYTHING, nor bothered to understand him. He wanted Ian to adapt to him, because he thought he was better than whatever Ian had going on in his life.

Ian was Jo's manic pixie dreams girl, or his Ramona Flowers if you will.

I'm not saying he's the worst man ever, because all three of them are pretty bad, I just don't like seeing people try to paint him as a saint when he's not. I can also talk about why I don't like Ian at all, just lmk.

Ps. Sorry for any spelling mistakes, my tablet's language isn't set to english rip (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜

I get what you mean—everyone views things from their own POV, and that’s completely fair. I love Jo, and while I don’t fully agree with everything you said, there are definitely parts that made me pause a little—like.... I can’t entirely disagree with them either.

I’ve always had this almost perfect, untouchable image of Jo in my mind. Nothing ever really felt off to me while I was reading, maybe because I never tried to look at things that way. And since I started this such a long time ago, I don’t even remember every detail clearly anymore. The way you explained everything honestly felt like a full overview, and because of that, I don’t think I can properly argue against your points without revisiting it all again.

But even then, Jo is still Jo to me. That version of him I’ve held onto for so long—it means something. And I don’t really want to pick it apart and ruin that image for myself.

At the same time, I do agree with you on one thing—all three of them are flawed. Not just a little, but deeply. None of them are perfect, not even close. And when you really think about it, it’s hard to ignore how messy, complicated, and even frustrating they can be at times.

But I think that’s also why it hits so hard. When you’ve been following a story for so long, almost since it started, growing with the characters, feeling everything alongside them—you don’t just see their flaws, you also see everything that made you stay. So yeah... I’m definitely a bit biased when it comes to them. Maybe more than I’d like to admit.

Still, I really do understand where you’re coming from. Even if I don’t fully agree with everything, I can see your perspective clearly—and I respect it.!

I can understand where you're coming from. In the end our perspectives on them are shaped by our experiences as well. I had the privilege of being able to binge everything yesterday (lol) so I had nearly all the information available without having to wait for updates.

One thing that also kinda shaped my opinion was that it was pretty clear since the beginning that TJ and Ian were a mess, so their toxic behavior wasn't surprising but when Jo came into the story, it was almost as if the author put him on a place of moral superiority compared to the other two, when in reality he's also flawed.

I was also charmed by Jo at first, but the things I mentioned in his behavior made me do a double take in the end, I think he deserves someone that can meet him where he is and has more emotional compatibility with him.
