wow... just... wow. started reading this morning, finished now at 04.29 a.m.
yet another amazing story from oshimi shuuzou. and you can really see his unique style take off in this manga, and early traces of chi no wadachi. he is simply amazing with human psyche. I love his extremely complex characters, his storytelling through art, the way he explores the depths of human mind... everything about his work is phenomenal. I'm looking forward to when he comes up with another manga.
as about this story itself... gosh, I'd never see this ending coming. masterfully executed. I loved how throughout the manga, mari is this enigma nobody knows anything about, and at the very end we get to see her, and not just look at her.
ahhh now it's time to read chi no wadachi again :)
I wish it was easier to find more work similar to his, but he is just too characteristic and unique.
oh how I love this manga. it's even better than I remembered, now that I'm older. such a bittersweet ending, I would want them to end up together but this is the most realistic outcome. I relate to nakamura so much. all she wanted was someone to be "alone" with, someone who'd be as excluded from humanity as she was, and someone who was just as "sick" as she felt. I also grew up in a shitty small town, spent my life wanting to get the fuck out of it, and wanting to find someone who'd be willing to do it with me. like her, I found him, but it turned out he was "normal" too, like kasuga lol. I made it out and crawled back. poor baby. we never made it to the other side.

no matter how many years pass, no matter how many times I re-read this story, it always breaks my heart.
I always cry at the end.
such beautiful story-telling and brilliant character writing, really no other psychological horror comes close to this one.
was 17 when I first read this comic and am now 23. I still haven't read anything quite like it.
