Me and my best friend have been working really hard on a bl story and all we need to do is draw it ect. but I have no idea where to post it and how, any tips?
Tip 1
Don't publish on Mangago and similar manga aggregation sites.
They don't pay.
Tip 2
Talk to local artists and writers about your options and for advice.
Your local library may have a writer in residence and an artist in residence.
There may be a local writer centre and arts centre. Conventions are also good places to meet, there's usually a writers/artists section, can usually look up online before hand.
Tip 3
If digital drawing, investigate standard colours, I know a digital artist who had to redo all the colours for their digital comic because they didn't know about the colour standards for computer display.
Tip 4
Look into local, national and international copyright law both print and digital.
Decide what copyright you want as you need to state the copyright when you first publish.
Tip 5
Decide if you want to self publish or are looking for an online publisher.
For self publishing
For self publishing artists the best site is Deviant Art as the artist keeps 100% of their copyright. You need to set up a PayPal or patreon account to accept payments from commissions (people pay an artist to create works of art).
Of the blogging sites the best is supposed to be wordpress for their copyright policy you will need to look into it more.
Be wary of social media, only publish marketing images eg. Sample or watermarked images include a link to where you sell form. A lot of social media sites have unfavorable copyright policies.
If your bl is explicit you have ethical considerations to look at. Need a way to stop children accidentally getting access.
You need to look into this yourself.
Publishing Companies
Publishing companies will usually pay author and artist between 10% and 20% of profits, depending on the company and if you can get initial contract. Usually need to get yourself an agent. Each company has their own rules for publishing and manuscript submissions.
Be wary of companies giving less than 10% royalties and have a close look at the copyright policies. Be wary of having to pay to publish.
I'm not sure which online publishers are English based you will need to find out your self. Lezhin is Korean based (need to start off self publishing, then get picked up or licensed to get paid, but original language published is Korean and later translated into English, not sure if they have started to accept English comics). [Note that there was a controversy about Lezhin not paying their creators properly about 2 years ago]. Webtoon is by Line which is a Japanese company, not sure about their publishing practices. There is also Tapas which I think is a English orientated web comics platform, but I have not done research into this yet.
Your local artists and writers may know more.
Tip 6
You will need to look up local and national labour laws. Some countries count artists and writers as self employed and require you to set up a company and bank account for your earnings especially for tax purposes.
