If you're alright with spoilers....he basically bonds with the ML in the novel very well to the point he decides he wants to say with him.
When the portal opens back to his world he's essentially not sure if he wants to go the first time and the second time he decides we wants to even when he's poisoned (there may be an antidote with the assassin but it's unclear if he actually would've gotten it).
Basically the ML feels guilty realises everything the MC is saying is true (the first time he sees the portal) and so when he realises the ML hasn't left yet but is in danger he pushes him through the portal whilst he kisses him with the assassin about to strike him.
The largest issue is that the OG ml in the MCs reality hasn't bonded with the MC for 5 years. They've only ever confessed to each other and dealt with the outing scenario which...MC didn't handle well. Plus at the end it's kind of insinuated they get together but it's also of course now plagued with him essentially low-key being in love with his psuedo twin now instead of him...so yh.
*As in the second time the portal opens he decides he wants to stay and not go back.
