(Read up to chapter 27)
A somewhat lengthy review.
Sometimes I don't quite understand how the ratings are decided. This is an alright read. If you've read anything else of this genre, they're not particularly reinventing the wheel here. This story weirdly has no romance tag despite the story building up to that a lot. That aside, I'm not particularly sold on the romance. The MC doesn't really have any defining characteristic aside from being nice (instead of being evil as in the original). Her love interest mage reads very one-dimensional too. And the progression of their relationship doesn't manage to be convincing in my opinion. ML starts liking MC out of the blue because she's continuously nice to him (before that, he simply found her "intriguing"), and MC starts liking him because... uh... I can't even tell? She rather suddenly turns conscious of him (after he pulls a boring version of Howls moving castle) and that's for their development.

Other than that, the story feels very directionless at times. MC doesn't struggle for her accomplishments, she simply uses the power of her title/standing/money. MC's only struggle was being left on read for five years by ML for reasons I may never find out because I'm dropping this.

Maybe related more to the genre as a whole, or maybe it's just bad writing. Too often do I see MLs with no relationships aside from FMCs, ADDITIONALLY to the MLs very obviously needing therapy because they embody the obsessed boyfriend stereotype a little too much. This story would be better with some kind of natural/believable development either from MC, ML or the overall plot. It might be there later down the line, but then it would lie past the 27ch mark.
-> That being said, this will be a nice story for some and a boring one for others.

Note: They do attempt some "key events" for the blooming relationship. So it's not like there's nothing. I simply believe there are stories that can do this better out there.

"This story weirdly has no romance tag despite the story building up to that a lot."

What I love about this is the stories that lead to her resolving 'future' issues based on her being isekai'd. It's similar to apothecary diaries romance is a subplot! The random bits of the romance segment is cute and fun rather than it being centered around if they get together or not. It focuses on how Mia resolves her problems and make business, stray from the inevitable death her family met while doing business, and serve those under her while managing political conflict—it should've been obvious. This is empowering Mia the MC and ayan is a subplot which is unfortunate but it has its charms.

    "doesn't struggle for her accomplishments,"

A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!!! continuous conflicts makes me drop them, a cycle of getting back up again is just not for me. to each their own yk but yeah her having a smooth transaction all the time is bcs she was isekai'd so it makes sense. afaik based on the "novel" ayan shouldn't have been in her life anymore, he's like an enigma. that's why that part of her journey has ups and downs, unpredictable. it adds a little spice but not too much that it affects the main plot since he's just there

    Hello!

I haven't started the story expecting romance so I thought it was an error how it wasn't tagged as romance on here. Even with romance as a subplot, I thought that would be tagged then.

I would consider apothecary diaries more complex than this story, so I wouldn't compare this story and apothecary diaries. Also, the author of apothecary diaries stated previously that they did not intend for Maomao to have a romantic relationship with Jinshi, however, it turned really popular with the fans so there's still some sprinkles of that in the story. Author's (Natsu Hyuuga) quote from an interview: "My honest opinion on [romance in the story] is that in a situation like this, there is no time for romance (laughs). But if there are not many romantic scenes, people around me tell me to add more of it. Not only the readers, but also my aunt says [Won't they get together soon?], so I am thinking [I'll just add one more romantic scene]. It's almost like I'm being threatened while writing (laughs)."
Ever since reading about this, I did not feel comfortable with the romance subplot involving Jinshi as Maomao is clearly not interested and the author is not comfortable with it either as it was not the initial intention.

And to add onto the yandere part, he would be more of a yandere if the reason he kills others is because they're getting in the way of his love for another person; but he already did and does plenty of killing outside of that even before developing any feelings. He is a classic dark broody all-powerful male lead with a cocky attitude and a tragic Backstory that is overrepresented in the romance genre (dark romance in particular, which is really popular as far as I've seen). I am not particularly a fan of that and the yandere archetype (but I have witnessed rare occasions of them being interesting to read about, so I keep an open mind and engage with the story first (I read 27 chapters of this) before I pass any judgement). Personally, I prefer yanderes in a horror setting and not a heartwarming feel good story with low struggles. This one just didn't click with me.

Anyway, long rambling on my end, but it sounds like you are enjoying the story, and that's really all that matters tbh!

i just meant that they both have a romance subplot but mainly and always focuses on solving problems. not about the personal journey of apothecary becoming a romance as a whole... the munchkin the title meant was all of the person she's been taming throughout the manhwa not just the ml so there's not much romance just like apothecary since it's framed as a side quest rather than as a driving force of the plot to say the least! just want to clarify this as i think my comparison was misunderstood.
    .
*munchkin in kr means, overpowered/strong people (title alone, the ml was just one of the lot she tames :)

+ abt his cocky attitude, he was a kid. he got better and becomes more human, currently is. and veryyy tame he only killed for her once bcs her business was raided and he was told by staff she'll hate him if he doesn't help :D but still he manipulates her through pity lmao he also got a 'friend' from the magic tower bcs they make him fl merch to carry since she ignores him all the time and only comes to him when she needs him or is not busy, might as well spoil if you're not reading anymore hah anyways byee

*friend - not like it was but ml was the first to not bully the guy abt his looks and appreciates his creations im sure ml dgaf but he was nice to em bcs of the merch

Have you left your own review of the story on here? Your insight may help others with your taste to find this and enjoy the story. That way, your arguments won't get lost in a long thread down of one negative review.

P4ndamonium's questions ( All 1 )

P4ndamonium March 8, 2026 3:26 am

I think I'm in a slump right now, or something along those lines. Searching for and finding interesting/good stories on here feels draining and I often find myself scrolling for hours on end only to cancel my search because nothing good came out of it.
That's about the whiny part of this post. Now to the actual question:

I am searching (mainly for Manhwa/Manhua/Webtoons) that do something interesting/intriguing with their concept. Can be any genre, I read pretty much everything. But since "good/interesting" is a very subjective term, let me try to be more clear by giving some examples (which also count as recommendations on my end):
"Welcome to demon school, Iruma-kun!"
"A secretly capable child is seeking for her dad"
"See you, my king"
"On the way to meet mom"
"The male leads trapped in my house"
"Once upon a time"
"Murderer Llewellyn's enchanting dinner invitation"
"Full Volume"
"I stole the number one rankers soul"
"Raising Villains the right way"
"The greatest estate developer"
"The skeleton becomes a cat dad"
"Surviving Romance"
"Your eternal lies".

All of these series either do something interesting/entertaining with their concept (or within their genre), or they attempt something unique in my opinion. Maybe I'm just tired from an over-reliance on tropes and interchangable storylines/characters, but I keep chasing that high that all of these series made me feel after reading/completion.

but anw, when looking for something that piques my interest, I usually go to a specific story that I really like and check the lists they've been put at, cause you can find interesting stories on other people's list or you can just ask for recommendations cause a lot of people here also have great tastes and recommends rlly nice stories.

I'd recommend you check older titles, there are some classics that really hold their place years after being published. Once you get past the art style boundary (bcs some people limits themselves only reading works with trendy artstyle) you'll get exposed to more stories that don't necessarily get recommended enough. Check more tags like Drama/Mystery/Adult for heavier plot. Also seinen/josei stories offer depth that shounen/shoujo don't, so you can explore that too.

Thank you for the recs! I'll check them out!

What's often stopping me from reading older stories or manga especially is the format. Since I'm reading on my phone, it's easier to scroll webtoons because those are created with the phone as the medium in mind for ease of access. Manga on the other hand are still often a print medium so page layout is considered first and foremost. Reading manga on my phone often forces me to zoom into pages to see or read stuff and unless I really enjoy the story, the effort to stop and zoom in on every second or so page is rarely worth it. Which is why I normally prefer to read manga in print (but those sadly have gotten really expensive lately, aside from the lack of licensed stories that are only made available by scanlation groups for a greater audience online)

I understand. I also read them on my phone but really, good stories will make up for it. The thing with webtoon is their chapters are much shorter than manga (there are less things happened in a chapter). And with how the webtoon industry works there is more incentive to just follow the trends instead of inventing something new story wise. This happens in manga too but I feel like manhwa/manhuas are more forgiving to the "romance/fantasy isekai slops". Of course there are still very good ones but they are maybe 1 out of every 5 or 10 mangas.

Since you mentioned you're new another way to get new stories is to go to genre page, select the genres you like, and then sort by either Popularity, Views or Update (if you want something new). It's an easy way to see which works are popular and generally highly rated.

Good points, and I agree! I have used the search option you described but what I believe is a flaw in this way of sorting is that popularity is set to all time popularity (so older works are always at the top because they have more ratings/notes), and views and updates have a similar issue as to how there's still a necessity to search through stories to find a "good" one. Views does not guarantee good quality and updates are everything that has been uploaded/updated recently. What I find oddest though is how stories that are below a 9. Rating often aren't good either from what I've seen so far, so the scale is basically 1-8.9 (bad) and 9.0-10 (good). And what's even weirder is how there are stories that are rated at 9. and higher that are the most generic things you can find out there (quote your point about "Manhwa/Manhua being more forgiving to the 'romance/fantasy isekai slops'"). The first one is a sorting issue (which could be solved by allowing popularity/views/updates to be selected simultaneously) and the other is just a confusing rating system (why have a 10. Scale when you can do a thumbs up or thumbs down like that?)
But I've been rambling at this point.
Someone else recommended checking out stories I like and the reading lists of other people they're sorted into, and so far I appreciate how there tend to be comments by the creators of the lists to most of the works sorted into those lists (as I like reading reviews or at least get a synopsis).

Thank you for your time, I appreciate your replies!

You're welcome! Yeah it does have the limitation as you said before. Would be nice if we can do more advanced search or filter with multiple tags but as you said checking similar list is very helpful. I also randomly check people's profiles just to see what they're reading lol

The good thing abt this website is the community is very active and helpful so I'm sure can always find something to read. Happy reading
