I dont think it was his past because Garam never performed in Korea. After the Gaeum scandal, garam and heejae stayed out of korea for years so It might just be dreaming of the life he should've and could've had
But in the dialogue says "pianist returns to Korea" and "he's Korean; he should come here more often"
