Sometime ago I read manga about childcare. FL&ML lived together, but weren't married. One day some relatives on the guy's side died and orphaned 2 boys, whom guy took into care. The older one was around 14 years old (high school) and the younger one was just about to start elementary school (7 y/o). Both guy and FL had over 30 years.
