Regardless of how well I remember 2010, I still know queer history. Maybe the homophobia and stigmatization wasn’t as bad as previous decades but that doesn’t change that fact that it was still present, especially in the context of a character like Eugene’s situation

he's dealing with the added fact the he's an asian man in a white community trying to fit in. and tbh i was gay in 2010 in a very liberal area and it was still not great. he's clearly in the mid west or smth where shit like that was much worse especially for a highschooler

if he's been dealing with racism since young in that very town, then clearly it's a very closed minded place

even today most rural small towns have that bigoted mindset even if its a bit toned down

just because it was starting to be more accepted on social media and online groups, doesnt mean the media didn't still stigmatize it heavily, even worse comming from randoms in your hometown

I’m just trying to point out that Morgan doesn’t even have the level of homophobia that Eugene is exhibiting. It’s stigmatized but I think that Eugene is also especially particular about his social image, which causes him to be additionally “assholey.” Y’all mad if you think I’m trying to claim stigmatization doesn’t exist lmfao
