i guess beings of the origin don't have a gender most times?? like that scene in the novel jio was unsure if his son was really a son, but in the end gender is kinda complicated so they just continued with what they already knew (hell even as a portrait jio wouldn't really truly have a gender himself, he's just "a portrait of a man" currently not an actual man lmfao) but i'm just yapping rn
well the novel that i read also uses he/him pronouns for Eunha, the mermaid that Giovanni taught, even though the name is clearly a female's. you cant trust MTL novels nowadays. it's rare to come across genuine translation.
the novel that i read has pretty consistent pronouns but yea MTL always messes up pronouns
