I think this is something that could happen in real life. Governments sometimes try to bury things when powerful people risk being exposed to public scrutiny.

Was the ending satisfying? No, especially not for the victim's family. But unfortunately, it's believable. Money and influence can make problems disappear, and justice doesn't always prevail when protecting the rich and powerful becomes the priority.
