Notice how the brother (whom the Dante is afraid of) has the ‘ability’ that mc has? The ability to ‘read’ people. I don’t think his brother is as psychologically intelligent as he present him to be, as he hover that over Dante’s head. I think he felt threatened by dante due to his own lack of ability and make up by ‘absorbing’ or ‘mimicking’ that talent and project his ability of lack onto the mc so he never developed psychological ability properly( as Now that his brother isn’t constantly shaming him or stunting his growth thru verbal or psychological abuse. see how this ability naturally unravels for him? And how that is his fog ability? The ability to perceive and connect with someone core desire and inner child requires ‘heart’, an empathy that naturally gravitates towards people, and believing theres good in them. Mc’s brother lack it, (you can logically understand ppl without the empathy) and is terribly insecure, as to be threaten by someone’ existence and based his self-worth on hovering over that person. Superiority complex, a self-made system to rank self- worth and everyone else’s, his brother choose ‘being psychologically intelligent’ as the top.
Either that, or his brother isnt as bad as it seem, as dante does have an inferiority complex so it warped the narrative around his home life, so maybe his brother wasnt purposefully taunting him in reality. (But I don’t wannaaaa elaborate on thisss one, though considering how the author create a negative impression of a character before revealing the humanity they have, I’m leaving this possibility open. )
Nvmmm, I don’t think the second option is that possible. I was scrolling thru the chapters and saw that scene of child Dante crying over a dying bird and that ass of a brother belittling his emotions. “Please be rationale, you’re going to be late for school” Bye. I really don’t like his ass, does he think he’s above feelings, he genuinely can’t empathise nor can he actually ‘handle’ feelings. The audacity to portray yourself as the ‘psychologically smart one” when you’re not.
I can’t wait for the story to reveal him to be less ‘scary’ and omniscient as Dante’s mind present him to, especially cuz Dante actually doing the real work to connect with people heart’s, and develop his psychological ability to understand someone subconscious feelings. Hes gonna realise his brother is more pathetic than he seem to be, and there was nothing ever to be afraid of.
Tho, still open (kinda) to the second possibility cuz I hate missing potential plot twists.
