That was really unnecessary (sleeping with the cold energy girl). But it wouldn't have ended with him becoming the patriarch because since the beginning he was bound to fight the Blade God clan since he learnt about the Demon Sword losing to him, someone who created counter techniques to the Heavenly Demon God's own techniques (and also, author seems to want to make him a real God so him becoming the patriarch doesn't make him a God)
But if the whole Demon Sword and Blade God hadn't been introduced, yeah, it would have been nice to have it end with him becoming the patriarch.
