I don't wanna give a major spoiler because it's crucial to the story, but if I could give one spoiler, it'll be, "Varkas' curse will finally broken and one day, he won't be bound to the prince and princess anymore" it means if he wants to be with Talia, no one can stop him. And of course, he always wanted her, that's why he didn't say no to the marriage.
It gets really angsty and heart wrenching before that part. It won't do good to one's mental health to endure the upcoming updates. I'm actually waiting for it to end. But it's a very very good story.

No. Even if Varkas couldn't say no, he didn't wholly did it because he was being commanded by Talia. He really wants her (but he wouldn't be able to express it well because he couldn't identify what emotion it was).

actually, no. Because the story is written like in a third person's pov or narrated. Varkas actually is devoid of feelings due to his past experiences. Totally devoid of itânot the typical nonchalant man who's just nonchalant for no reason. He's not the expressive kind of 'secretly liking' it's like even he cannot determine what he feels (unless he loses something very important to him, which will be in the later part of the story)

I have 3 cats. My boy cat is very attached to me. Follows me like a glue. Not super affectionate but never rejects a pet, never minds if we pick him up.
