I have no clue what the plot is, so I'm just gonna guess that the plot mainly revolves the word 'freedom' within this setting.
Patience is key in these to types of manhwas but I'm really feeling it right now. 41 chapters in and I still don't see a noticeable change in character development. Lord have mercy.
Think I'm just gonna skim and not even properly read all the next chapters until he gets a major improvement in character development.
Still think all this build up will be worth it to their characters and I understand that, but it's frustrating to continue reading knowing the same process of selfish actions will repeat until then.

Wow, I'm surprised this many is frustrated with the story. It does get a little repetitive after 120ch but honestly they're just honing their relationship.
Regarding Heejae and his ex lover, it's called trauma. Your trauma does not cater to anybody. You cannot expect Heejae to resist that easy—even with different conditions such as a lover.
This trauma from his ex led him to abuse multiple students over the span of 10 years, verbally and physically abuse Garam during their courtship and the early phase of their relationship, and be so emotionally constipated and immature that he refuses to do the bare minimum even after years of taking and demanding things from someone much younger. I get that he has trauma, but it gets to a point where it becomes inexcusable, so of course people are frustrated. He should just follow that dead ex to the grave honestly.
