Yall gotta understand that JK has been shitty (not excusijg him for being a douche ofc) but also has been thru shit so this is probably the first time he he’s been desperate AND vulnerable. He’s been desperate to live a life and prove himself but almost never vulnerable. If you feel like his redemption arc is not enough, sure, but to me this is actually an okay pace. KD’s personality is just the way it is. He’s a people pleaser because he needs to survive, but are we just gonna forget that he also tried to actually leave JK behind but JK’s the one who had then chased him.
