As far as I understand, TJ bribed some underlings to mess Ian up during his race because he felt insecure(?) And feared that Ian would make himself a life with his biking career and go off to better places leaving him behind. But the underlings messed Ian up big time and Ian knew who was responsible but both decided to pretend otherwise.
