According to the spoiler I read, the brother did survived, and now he wants the fl because it was realize she is the real poet's descendant that the two families promises were based on. It's kind of hard to explain, apparently there were some kind of fraud were done by the Siyeon's former parents side. Ha, the brother is a real piece of work, he pretend that he lost his memory and etc... but was found out. He ended up in an arrange marriage and his wife cheated on him. This is what you call Karma.
