That comparison isn’t right. The entire story so far only ever showed and said she was their TEACHER. Who taught them their magic. That is it. Nothing else. She isn’t and was not like their mother. She did not raise them and she did not take care of them within her home. She taught them how to use their powers on their own. They chose to rely on her on their own accord. They are the ones that have an unhealthy attachment to their teacher. They didn’t even know her name or real appearance. They thought she was an old man.
