I feel like he believes that the mc’s mom is actually deceased and in the kimchi fridge he likely knows she’s not making it up or making some sort of joke, maybe he doesn’t want to help her in that way.
Honestly, for me I didn’t feel like she loved him very much even at the beginning of the series she definitely cared, but I wouldn’t say happily in love. he was wrong for proposing the idea to fulfill his own selfish desires, but even if he never suggested it she would likely still cheat lol feel bad for oppas wife tbh, but I know she’s doing a lot better than him.

The mother's got to know each other in the hospital and became good friends. I think this implies that HER dad was a one night stand.
But I feel like since ML and his two brothers look alike, the dad was there until at least his birth... But most likely passed.
That would at least explain why the mothers' leaned on each other so much, and why the eldest brother is so mature. First born had to grow up quickly, and get a job to support the other two boys, buuuuut that also ended up ruining the eldest's marriage... since he put his brothers before his wife.
