as far as I remember from the novel, Lee Kangjin sacrificed himself because it was all related to the trait he has. but cmiiw though, because I already finished the novel long ago, I just slightly remember about him and Lee Dongmin (a classmate of Chaeyoon) who then became "the dungeon" itself after he died

It's been a long time since I read it and I read mtl version at that time, so it might be inaccurate. So what I remember is, the black hole that appears before the four of them get out of that great dungeon kind of demand two things from them. Defeat it or sacrifice one person to extend the time so they can conquer the great dungeon again 10 years later.
Lee Kangjin know they're not in a condition to defeat it so he choose to sacrifice himself. I think he erase the memory of the remaining four survivors the detail about the black hole and his sacrifice. I forgot the exact reason why though.
