that's what I said too, I don't see how you come back from this. usually the trope is that the ml is a bastard but he's nice to the mc, & the girlies go crazy for this. but the ml is horrible to the mc? they're probably gonna pull some bullshit sob story from the ml's childhood, like with Jinx, as if that magically excuses this behavior. at this point I'm sticking around only to confirm my dire suspicions. the BL genre was never super great with avoiding problematic tropes, but recently I feel like it's getting worse somehow
