One thing that frustrates me about the discussion around TJ and Ian is how TJ's sacrifices are constantly highlighted while Ian's sacrifices are ignored.
TJ did sacrifice a lot for Ian, and that is undeniable. However, people often forget that those were still choices TJ made. Ian never asked TJ to leave his adopted parents, abandon his previous life, stay by his side for years, or join the organization. TJ made those decisions because of his own feelings and circumstances. His love for Ian is real, but those choices cannot be used as proof that Ian owes him everything or that Ian is responsible for every hardship TJ experienced.
What also gets overlooked is how much Ian sacrificed. Ian blamed himself for TJ's situation even when he wasn't the person who made those choices. He carried that guilt for years, suppressed his own feelings, and stayed in an environment where he likely faced judgment and hostility because of his sexuality. He stayed because TJ said he needed him, even though Ian himself was suffering. Tj knew he was suffering which you can clearly see when they were talking in the bathroom and be asked Ian to understand him... He knows Ian would take it and he let it happen..
Ian never asked TJ to leave the organization because TJ was already an important figure there. Ian didn't want to force TJ to abandon everything for him. When Ian tried to leave, he believed leaving was the best choice for both of them. But when Ian eventually wanted to return to TJ's side, TJ was no longer willing to accept that.
They both made so much sacrifice because of their feeling for each other and both hurt each other but you it's just Ian get pick apart by everyone? Him sleeping with other people women? Bisexual in peace? Why would TJ not catching feeling for random background character be comparable to Ian and Jo connection. Jo is an ML.
