There's no real drug that permanently destroys all your serotonin receptors or production, as far as I know, and it's definitely not MDMA or molly. The medical talk is a bit opaque, but they're using a fictional street/designer drug to make this story. It's not impossible, just as fentanyl is a super potent opiod, some super potent serotonergic agonist could maybe cause excitotoxicity (overactivity that leads to cell death) and permanently damage serotonin pathways, but molly won't. Also, if your entire serotonin system is fried, you have more to worry about than just mood, since it's involved in modulating several other processes like memory and digestion.

Ok I fact checked quickly, and there are toxins deliberately used in research settings to destroy parts of the serotonin system (5,6- and 5,7-Dihydroxytryptamine), so "no drug exists" was an overreach, but to keep it simple: no, it's not MDMA/molly, but it's some fictional drug in that neighborhood.

my theory is that it's based on the new generation of serotogenic anxiolytics which target 5-hydroxytryptamine-1A receptors. it's some fictional high potency version that might be deregulating the receptors making it immediately hard for the serotonin to bind after first use

I don't know much about drugs or serotonin disorders, tbh, but photophobia is common in migraine, and epilepsy famously involves light sensitivity, so there's some precedence for neurological disorders producing photophobia or being exacerbated by light-based stimuli

Give it time, the second season just started and there's definitely a lot more story left to tell. Honestly, I feel like it could rank right up there with the greats like LITC, Nerd Project, Our sunny days, One Room TA etc... But the thing is, those stories just have a completely different vibe compared to Jinx and it's okay lol

Well, Jinx hooks the average reader because it’s easy read. It's not bad. We need stories like that—to split them from the ones that actually leave the readers with something more... complex situations and genuine dialogue where they actually learn from the characters. Idk. That’s just when the author puts so much love into every single detail of their world, same as Happy Twogether for now :)

That's gonna hard to achieve, since this story is rlly heavy on plot and barely smut lol it's gonna be "boring" for readers who only wants to read to goon.
