Also I think although people with MDD often do have something they see has a last hurrah to become healthy again, the specific event doesn't always happen, and simply banking on it will not cure the disorder even if it does "work." Philip already lost his identity; identity isn't being happy and throwing parties, he needed to restart his life like Sahan did but he couldn't because he never tried.
