I think it was the helplessness FMC felt, the enduring anxiety, the endless hand-wringing and nail-biting worry that led to her suicidal ideation, and thus the actions that took place. In this world we have some very damaged individuals. I can't say she won't experience this sorrow again, or that Callisto won't want to die at the prospect of losing Penelope again.

But I do know this. That through whatever struggles they may face, they'll endure it together. I think that was the moral of this story. You don't shoulder these burdens alone. More shoulders make for a lighter load.
