now that I'm re-reading this with the knowledge that Ian was sexually assaulted by Michelle's father, Ian's reactions to Michelle's kindness really sticks out to me. Like when Michelle wanted to bring the flowers rather than the briefcase or when he said he wouldn't mind if his wife had a child who wasn't his, Ian is shocked because the son of the man who tortured him was that kind. He wanted Michelle to be evil so that it would be easier to exact his revenge. Sometimes there are also moments where he glares at Michelle. Ian really deserves all the kindness Michelle has to give.
