During the American slave trade there were definitely slaves that were given food water shelter, and even free time. That doesn't fucking matter though. They still wanted freedom. Because the basics needed to survive is not actually living. That's called surviving. And that's LITERALLY what they outlined in this chapter; that there is a difference, and people would rather risk death for freedom than live in survival mode where a selfish, violent man gets to decide who lives and who dies.
