Finally finished this, reread it since I stopped around when 30 chapters were out! Honesty, I highly recommend this to everyone, I truly loved it. The artwork and story were simply beautiful and I really loved the themes that the author included.
However, I do think that there was something missing from the story. It was a little bit lacking for me but honestly, that might just be myself haha and the the state I currently am in since it doesn't resonate with me as much as it prob would've years ago. Anyways, what I realized was that between the three main characters, Seth, Henry, and Sam, I feel like it wasn't complete. The entire plot resonated around these three MC's and I loved the relationship between Seth and Henry because it was new, while what Sam and Henry had was from their past, and both of them grew and matured SO much as people together. I'm not upset that they didn't end up together, I really did enjoy the way the author framed the story as Henry projecting himself on Seth and wanting to give HIMSELF validation through Seth, and realizing that and crying because he hurt Seth and truly did care about him. But on the other hand, I feel as if Henry and Sam together, and even Sam just as a character, wasn't complete. They had that whole misunderstanding about Sam liking baseball and the accident etc. but I feel like that was so... trivial. Sam's whole growth was just him realizing how much he LOVED Henry, not just as a friend but more than that, which isn't insignificant but just, I sorta wished for more from Sam as a character, especially when Henry and Seth were so well fleshed out. At the same time, while writing this I realize that we never got to see anything from Sam's POV. It was mainly Henry's thoughts and once in a while, Seth's, but while we could see Sam's actions of when he got jealous and was hurt, we never once got to see his thoughts. I think I would've felt a lot more for Sam if I could feel how much he was hurting, or if it was deeper like exploring their "obsession" with one another. I feel as though this story had a lot more potential.
Anyways that's just my thoughts, but I really did love reading this. Some of the lines were written/translated? gorgeously. 10/10 recommend.
I think I totally understand and agree with what you said, about how it’s not entirely complete cuz of Sam. It’s true that compared to Henry and Seth, there wasn’t much of his POV or how his feelings and thoughts are developed. It was to the point that I wasn’t so sure of how this will end and I thought Henry might end up with Seth instead cuz Sam made so little of appearance lol. I think this was why the story was so captivating cuz I always wanted to know what’s gonna happen. But also, I think it’s because of how the author built his character, he’s dumb and slow, like the man said himself lol. I guess we just have to accept the fact that he actually doesn’t have that much of depth as a character, still he’s very cute and loyal to Henry and they’re perfect for each other.
