There's a difference between an intrusive thought and a thought that you don't act on because of irl consequences. Case in point: say I wanted to kill a particular person, but I didn't know if I'd be able to carry it out and didn't wanna risk the law finding out. I wouldn't do it irl. But in a dream that doesn't feel real, sure. I would. Now, that's a legit murderous thought and shows malicious intent. I wouldn't be innocent. I had the intent, just not the follow-through. If the opportunity presented itself where there was no negative consequences, you betcha I would follow through.
However, say I have a random thought popping into my head like 'stomp that child' and I instantly mentally recoil from it. THAT is an intrusive thought. My recoil, that reaction of 'WTF' shows I don't actually have malicious intent, it's just fucked up intrusive thoughts acting up like annoying fruitflies.
THAT is why what Matthew did, is not right. Drugged or no, he's perfectly willing to commit rape because he thinks he'd get off scot-free. Meaning, only consequences are what's holding him back. And I'm sorry, but heartbreak and abandonment issues is not an excuse to rape anyone. Nothing excuses that.
All drugs and alcohol do is lower your inhibitions, so you follow-through on intent without judging the consequences heavily enough. You're honest when you're not sober. That's not to say someone can't take advantage of you. The definition of consent is: enthusiastic, informed, and freely given. You may be enthusiastic if drunk, but that doesn't mean you're giving it freely and without other influence.
Hence him raping this Jin while drugged is rape. Not an uwu poor Matt situation.
This is the 2nd of my favourite series being ruined by rape. At least with others it's obvious from the gate and you don't hope. This crushed me.
