Hold somebody means embracing (or to be more blunt—sex) them. In case of the woman and cat, just say she’s petting her cat. ╮(￣▽￣)╭ Idk if that’s what you’re looking for, but this is based on my understanding of your problem. (￣∇￣")
You could also say the woman is carrying the cat.
'to hold someone' in English does not mean 'to have sex with someone', the only time I've seen it used that way is in manga translations. It can mean to hug or embrace someone (in other words, to put your arms around another person), but the additional meaning of 'have sex with' is missing in English. So pretty much no English person would think that the sentence "The woman held her cat" means 'The woman had sex with her cat'. If your teacher thinks it does, then your teacher doesn't know English.
So it's quite okay to say "I held a cat" in the same way as you'd say "I held a book/phone", and it would have the meaning "I had the cat in my arms/hands and was holding on to it". If you said "I held my girlfriend/boyfriend", it would mean "I had my arms around them", and not that you had sex with them.
