Been lurking while reading this for a while now and wish there were more BL that showed such candid dynamics; I suspected it would be plain smut going in but this is an underrated gem in how it sheds light on how the bdsm/kink community AS IS. It's two adult consenting guys (literally in the description) and their communication is pretty damn good for BL. Dare I say the best. Dare I say this needs to be mainstream. I'm talking anime adaptation overtaking fifty shade's influence in the USA.
Is it weird I'm delighted it shows an ATTORNEY AND A RETIRED ATHLETE AND A DOCTOR? Many people in the community have varied jobs. The most common you see in the US (at least in some spaces) tend to be in the legal, medical, or physical labor fields (kinda similar to athletes), and the separation between parts of their life is just as unique, depending on how kink-positive your area is. I am teeheeing over the specific attention to this weird detail and it makes me wonder if someone on the team is in the community like they GOTTA be right??
Also I sympathize for anyone who feels like a "pervert" for being into this and I ALSO like they go into that. Unsure of the attitude towards this in other countries in films like South Korea's Love and Leashes, Japan's R100, or the UK's Preaching to the Perverted, but, the way they talk to each other about what they want and Hosebob STILL being shy about it COULD be multiculturally significant? Maybe there is a conversation we need to have about addressing internalized shame/embarrassment even if it is to be taken as a personality trait or running gag. Idk I feel like its too constant to not be a subtle hint to that conversation. Though, I could be reading too far into that one and Hosebob has a mild humiliation or degradation kink BUT that's not immune from examination for a deeper meaning either. The curtains were blue or whatever let me be deranged.
My only personal, subjective complaint is the random throwing in of plot points. Random kidnapping and getting married and having a stalker B-plot leading to nowhere doesn't make sense. The focus should remain on the relationship because that's the work's greatest strength in every metric which is why the audience of readers should instead praise the craftsmanship of characterization instead of annoy the writers about the issues. Basically it's mean to be enjoyed as literature, and though flawed, has a deeply transformative message about the people who gravitate to it.
Overall, it's clear the author(s) did their research and really thought about making a well-adjusted wonderful perfect beautiful couple to show to us and i am forever appreciative of this representation. I have realized I wrote the equivalent to a small essay and I am so sorry :')
