i think i’m a little sad they minimized just how intense the chase was in the novel when perez found clerivan (literally pulling him onto his horse) with ethan chasing them. they literally were racing through the city and right when ethan was about to reach them, they crossed the border into lombardy and the gates were immediately shut.
