I this what a lot of the people who are hating on this don't understand is that this story is take a very raw and realistic approach rather than the more fast-paced fantasy genres that we're use to seeing. The ML Ash is portrayed conveying the realistic thoughts, feelings and emotions of you everyday average person suddenly thrown into a situation like this.

Ash represent the most practical and rational thought and emotional process that most of our fight, flight or freeze mechanisms would churn out if we were her.

How could could ' you' be the " savior" of a character ( which was in a novel that you had thought was just a work of fiction until that point) when you are in equal ( or better yet worse) position that they are. Plus she address that she is not try to be the hero of the story from the very beginning. But trying her best to find clues to return to her reality.
And even with for Knowledge of the plot ( that could or could not be useful) she is as she states often "weak and powerless".

I personally feel that Ash just represents the Human Condition. She is approaching that situation with the queen as best as she can with the little influence she has. ( Like speaking up for the queen multiple times in the kings presence while risking her neck she is working so hard to save)

It's quite similar to in the way we deal with the homeless. Though we don't have the power to provide homes, meals and beads, we can do the minimum of giving a dollar or two. Ash may not be able to give the queen a new home but she trying to help with her hard earned cash.

And why is no one criticizing the queen for not saving herself. We all want a girl hero story from this, so wouldn't that mean the queen should be the hero of her own story? The queen is responsible for her actions just like Ash is. If you allow people to continue to treat you like your worthless they they will continue to do so. Maybe taking all that she was given was her way of surviving and enduring it all.

And that is not the only part of the story that is relatable in that aspect. The emotions and actions of all the character are lifelike and human.

Klein can't just get over Ithicka and love Ash because grief is tricky and can become all consuming.

Sir Mio can't just start loving Ash because human emotions are more complicated than that. And not all platonic opposite sex relationships have to end in romance.

And it was wrong for Teacher Seya to use Ash as a substitute for the queen but at least he did make false relationship promises like Klein. And for all we know we may have been genuinely looking to move past his love for the queen by falling into a new love.

And the way the maids, Ana and Ash may have seemed a bit insensitive or hurried in their grieving of Emillie and the others. They really weren't in a position that they could do so. Loef move on and they had to move with it if they wanted to survive as well.

And I think the slow burning of the romance is a quality aspect of the story as well. Right now Ash in in a vulnerable position with her life. So dedicating time to find 'the one' is not within her scope of reasoning right now. She can't even full trust any of them, let alone fall in love. And for all those who hate her even considering Klein, he is he best and safest option if she can't return home.

So these are just my thoughts on why I love it so fare and offer a different perspective on what we're use to seeing as far as stories of this genre go.

Well said! You put into words how I feel about the series, thank you.

I’m sure you forgot but it’s not the queens fault she gets treated the way she is treated. It’s the kings fault. We don’t blame the victim, but the person who is causing all the problems. Also the King has way more power over her too.
