So recently i dropped a series because I absolutely hated the seme so much and the author was romanticizing rape. (It was The Red Haired Boy for those who are curious)

I don’t even want to call him the seme, he was just a rapist, he started raping the uke when they were both children. And what made it worse was that the uke was completely at his mercy, his parents were gone and he had to rely on the rapists mother, who hated him for no real reason. So they framed it like; rapist rapes uke, rapist convinces mother to treat uke better, uke is expected to be great full to the rapist????

The author even said herself she saw this as them being in a relationship and not a child being preyed on and raped.

I cannot stand stories (gay or straight) that portray rape, molestation, abuse, etc.. as just part of a normal romance!

What series made you rage quit???

that’s a good question! i’ve read so many but i hardly ever quit any. things that make me quit are actually either bad art or bad translations, i feel like i’ve become so desensitized to most things in yaoi now. i don’t know if this counts (because i ended up picking it up again) but the first time i read Love Is An Illusion i quite around the beginning because all the characters pissed me off! i ended up finishing it after a while but i still have a so-so relationship with that one. for the most part, i seem to finish the ones i start

Love triangles, rape, toxic semes/ukes... These usually are a no thanks to me. Sometimes I read it anyways cause I'm too close to the end to just drop it but I feel disgusted with this content. When it's really terrible (like on a killing stalking level of terrible) I just can't, it makes me really disgusted and angry

I can't understand those people with manipulative toxic seme kinks, I find the cute and caring semes the most hot... Like Taehan from Love shuttle, Yohan from Sign, Boris from Stigma... Toxic rapists make me sick

I was able to get through Killing Stalking because they actually acknowledged when assault was assault, rape was rape, etc. It never pretended like it was a good thing.

I agree with disliking "Love triangles, rape, toxic semes/ukes" although I like it when a love triangle turns into a threesome! ヾ(☆▽☆)

I was enjoying December Rain until I saw a rape warning in the beginning of a chapter and then I immediately closed that tab and never read the manga again. Sucks because I really liked it up until that point. It's fucked up when an author decides to randomly use rape as a plot device to move the story along or to try to "develop" a character's personality that way. I think using rape as a storyline or to make your character become a stronger person is gross, outdated, and not entertaining at all. I'm not saying rape stories aren't worth telling but depicting rape in certain ways and overusing rape in stories can do more harm than good. It can desensitize people to the violence, we don't always have to see it to believe it happened, using it to stir an emotional reaction from the audience is lazy. But thats just my opinion.

I think you should keep reading it though. The "rape" wasn't between the couple, was used as some kind of breaking point for them (because the uke had to use violence to save himself and the seme had to help him with the afterwards). They both suffer deeply because of the assault, it's mature and emotional, not just the "rape without plot" typical shit.
