I think it's because they slapped modern Korea and omegaverse together. Culture and mindset lean heavily on the Korean side and not as much on the omegaverse world

Most people might disagree, but Gunner’s character was... very well written. I appreciate his narrative complexity, not his actions.
I thought he was going to be like the usual rapist who appears in BL manhwa... But the more I read, the more I understand. Thoughts like: "Ah, because there were no parents to guide him," "Ah, because his parents were abusive, that's why he became accustomed to violence," and "So he found solace in the MC's presence, but doesn't know how to truly love someone normally. He ends up getting obsessed, chasing a futile dream, and running away."
I became deeply invested in his story. His complex background, despite not being the main lead, is actually well constructed. His downfall doesn't feel arbitrary. Every terrible decision he makes flows logically from a childhood spent in survival mode.
What elevates Gunner from a simple villain to a compelling character is misguided motivation. The tragedy lies in the paradox: in trying to build a fortress to save their future, he destroys the very humanity that could have allowed them to be together. A lot of writers pull their punches when a side character starts doing irredeemable things, they'll try to soften the blow or make excuses mid-way; to put it simply, those characters are just used as plot props. Realistically, he isn't capable of changing. First, he lacks the internal infrastructure for reform (such as self awareness, emotional safety, healthy models). Second, trauma escalation loops (from raping MC's under drugs and shoot MC's leg). Third, simply because redemption would betray his writing.
Man, I would like to kiss the author. The narration and dialogue are truly good. Not only Gunner, though; the main lead is also well written... (I'm not going to analyze them yet because their story is still continuing). This was truly the best BL I read this year..

At first I was like, "Why does this look so familiar?" Then the Orc battle arc brought back memories. It was the first novel I read in high school, back when I didn't have any responsibilities. I remember reading it just because the cover looked amazing and he was so handsome. Now, seeing the adaptation, he is still handsome Now I'm taking my master's degree, and research and papers whisper in my ears even when I sleep. I feel so old!!!
