Agreed the author did not delve deep into his backstory enough for me. But different people respond to situations differently.
You said to explain the details. So here I'm writing my version of why he is the way he is (which means I'm mostly going off of what I'm getting) The cheating mother + the negligent father. It's pretty obvious that he blames his fathers indifference to him as a result of his mother's cheating.
But we don't know whether that's really true, as his pov isn't explored deeply and he is an unreliable narrator. It could be that none of his parents really love him at all, just cuz. Not only that they also do not love each other. He is filled with resentment for his mother blaming her for everything. In the first chapter we see that he targeted yu initially because he was so close with his family and it made him jealous and obsessed with hurting him in any way that matters.
So at the core of it he was brought up with indifference and it grew ugly soon. Some characters do not need to be orphaned, abused, assaulted and grow up in poverty as an excuse to be scummy, I think its refreshing to have a scum like him for a change. ╮(￣▽￣)╭
