I'm not gay, but when I friend-zone someone, it means that the only relationship which I am willing to engage with that person is as a friend, or nothing at all. There is no urge to have sex, no deeply responsive emotional intimacy, no desire to create long-term plans together (unless, possibly, in business or, for example, to throw birthday parties or other friend-group events.) This will never change and, if the other person cannot accept it, that means the relationship must be severed.

As a girl I've shut down only guys by saying I just wanted to be friends, but the erotic relationships I've had (either gender) have all been friends first. Far as I'm concerned, the friend zone is the pool I'm going to look into for any romantic partner. I don't date strangers.
