It's not as painful as it sounds because the Queen is a VERY minor character. She appears in most of the story arcs, but typically only for a single scene, with few exceptions. She is busy. Her biggest achievement as Queen is forming alliances with other countries, so she travels A LOT, especially in the earlier story arcs.
So, the good news is that she's rarely around to make you slam the book shut and start ranting about what she's doing.
