He was basically banished to the border to fight against intruders in dangerous situations cause he was a bastard son so his dad was hoping he’d just die, he was very talented at what he did tho so he caught the eye of the princess’s brother who has lots of power as royalty and decided to make him a military officer(despite his lower rank in society), he continued fighting and doing very questionable stuff just to survive and keep his title, the political issue at the end is that the intruders have united and they are deciding how to respond (the prince’s brother is probably gonna ask him to do some wack shit) shows how he became the hard person he is now and how his moral compass got fucked (sorry this was long hope it helps)
