But I still find his actions in chapter 4 a bit iffy tho. Welp! Their relationship is a work in progress throughout the story, but it’s a fact that they’ve really loved each other eversince
The discourse about their ages in the comments below made me laugh, I never really thought about that and now I’m thinking hard on it too
I started this manhwa years ago but never tried to read it when it was still updating. I forced myself to let it marinate so I can save myself from the pain of cliffhangers…
Then this year, I decided to reread it, saw that season 1 was complete (?!!) then realized it hasn’t been updated since 2024 No regrets in finally reading the whole thing though!
Season 1 was so awesome. I have no words to describe it rn, but I’m satisfied ;) Now, I’ll try to read the novel since I’m curious abt how it actually differs from the webtoon hehe
I want to give the both of them hugs… I think the reason why this story hit me hard in the heart is how it tackled flaws. Each character had them regardless of what their background was, and yet those flaws didn’t solely define them. It made me realize that flaws within us will always exist, but it doesn’t mean it will cause us to be unworthy to be seen and loved—instead, it’s what causes us to be even more deserving of it.
I deeply appreciate the open ending of this story. Usually, these type of endings leave me frustrated and confused, but right now, I’m happy because I’m free to interpret it the way I want to. The love between Ishida and Onishi is beautiful as is in a platonic light, especially with how their friendship is founded by how they’re each other’s strength. I like to believe, however, that over time, they become lovers as well. Maybe they even adopted a child years later . It’s not that far fetch given the textless panels, and out of all the probabilities, this one is my favorite.
I hope that in their fictional world, all the characters have finally found happiness in some way! Happy I read this today. I feel like I can breathe a little clearer :))
I’ve read this quite a few times over the years and I still get hooked each time. I think it helps that I’m a bit older each time I do reread since my perspective on the story changes and becomes more clear.
NOTE: English isn’t my first language so if you’re reading this, I hope I don’t give you a headache…
1. Ie
- I love him as an MC so much, especially with how I can relate with him emotionally. He’s a normal human who’s definitely shielded by plot armor if you think about it, but I wouldn’t have it any other way either.
- His photographic memory was sort of forgotten as the story progressed to its end, but it was still utilized in subtle ways like how he remembers where the wires of the building were and where the cradle was despite being blown up.
- It pains me to see him carry all of the trauma and sorrow from everything that happened at the cradle, especially losing Natsume and Yamabiki, but despite how confusing the last chapter was, I’m glad that it seems his emotional baggage was lessened.
- A really great friend :(( I’ll leave this at that.
2. Kazu
- A character whose appearances decreased as the story progressed, but I found myself being relieved whenever he pops up still cute and alive from time to time.
- I deeply appreciate his presence at the end of the story. It’s as if he was Ie’s pillar, and I’m just glad they had each other before, during, and after everything.
3. Yamabiki
- Definitely a freaky guy—that’s how I remember his character each time I reread this story. I love him despite it though, that’s what makes him a special and weirdly lovable character.
- His entire existence is still a mystery to me, especially since his capabilities wasn’t given much clarification. I get that he was struck by an immense amount of radiation, but a normal human wouldn’t survive that… What happened to him way before meeting Kiriyu that made him the way he is? Why did the people in the lab seem to worship him?
- I honestly forgot about his mother, so reading that earlier made my stomach churn with unease and disgust. How could she do that to her son… to a child? And it pains me to see how Yamabiki still thought of her in his final moments (in this story at least since I read comments saying he reappears in the sequel)
- A bisexual icon most of all!
4. Natsume
- He’s just a little boy :(( He was born in such a cruel world, and it makes me think of how strong he is for being able to withstand everything that’s happened to him.
- Sometimes it slips my mind how he’s still a child age-wise because of his physical appearance…
- It’s so unclear to me whether or not he really met with Ie in the last chapter. I like to believe that they did meet and talk just so I can say the three of them had closure before parting ways for good :(
- If Natsume is alive, I hope he’ll get to live. Live in the sense that he’ll get to experience new positive things that he wasn’t able to during his rushed childhood. If he’s with Yamabiki, then I hope they’ll enjoy life with each other’s company and face less gore.
5. Izumi
- His whole character made me go ‘erm…’ and I can’t seem to explain why... I don’t hate him though. I just view him as a fleeting character since he was suddenly killed off.
- At first, he made an impression on me because I found him handsome, but after telling the MCs his past, my interest lessened.
- Maybe because I found how he lusted after Natsume’s mom a bit weird, though I do get it was for the plot. Without him, there wouldn’t be a Natsume who was able to mitigate the existence of the masters. Maybe because I partly blame him for his father’s death even if I don’t want to feel this way because he was just a teenager who had no idea what the cradle was for exactly.
6. Writing about Women
- Similar to Apocalypse no Toride, I think the mangaka is yet to write and incorporate good female characters to their works. I do consider Natsume’s mother as a good one, but I found her very sexualized throughout the story.
- I plan to read the sequel soon after giving my mind a break from the gore. Hopefully, there’s improvement there!
All in all, I love this manga so much. Definitely one of my treasured stories :)) I hope to reread again soon, and maybe even buy physical copies of the manga if they become available in my country<3

Can anyone explain to me what Johnny’s past really was? Especially the flashbacks he keeps getting. I got a bit confused ever since the reveal at the ending…
