What do you mean "Don't they get paid"? I don't know of any scan group that gets paid to do it. They ask for donations but that isn't for them, that's to buy the raws and such. They don't keep the money for themselves. So they don't actually "get paid" and it's a lot harder being in a scan group than one might think because of deadlines and dealing with their life outside of the manga community.

Most times it says "Volunteer" or "Translated by fans for fans", it usually says that in the manga or on their own website. I am not in a scanlation group either but I knew that. A lot of other people know that as well, but it doesn't sound like a joke at all. Maybe next time you should make it sound more like a joke or put in it "this is a joke" because it comes off very ignorant and rude, tbh. （￣へ￣）

I hate you!!" I'm really baffled because that sounds so immature. and then after that you try to play it off saying that its their fault that they don't get the joke... honestly, i could tell it was a joke and there was nothing bad about what kuinishi wrote in the first comment. but when anon said "what do you mean," it gave a bad vibe. it really does. kuinishi might have overreacted but anon should watch what his or her tone sounds lIke. especially since its all written out and nothing hints the fact that he or she is just wanting to "inform." Don't just label someone as "ignorant or rude" just because you can't understand a joke because I understood it and i even laughed. Don't call someone "ignorant" just because you can't place yourself in someone else's shoes. Why did kuinishi overreact? did any of you who attacked him or her verbally on here think about that? because i did and anon's comment gave me the feel that anon was taking his or her anger of the translators not getting paid out on kuinishi. the "what do you mean," words hint anon thinling kuinishi's stupid or something. even if you really think someone's being ignorant, don't publicize it. just because someone doesn't know something doesn't meanthat they are stupid or ignorant. I'm one of the top five percent SAT scorers in the nation and i don't think the other 95 percent are stupid so what gives anyone any right to call anyone else stupid over a fact one could've just wrote "i don't believe they get paid at all" instead. 1, it sounds a lot better and doesn't give a bad vibe and 2, it doesn't give you any chance for others to mistake your "just informing" attitude. think about it before you reply.

So. The way Kunishi wrote things may have rubbed someone the wrong way along with the anon, because it is the internet it's hard to figure out what people mean & their tone~.

Kunishi, we do not get paid to do what we do, it's purely volunteer work. Even though we don't get paid, it's very enjoyable & pays for itself through the joy it brings to other fans. I don't speak for every scan group, but it can be difficult to balance everything & put out updates consistently especially if the group has just started. My group has apologized at least 3 times already for the update inconsistency.

Anon, She didn't know that we don't get paid for this. Maybe if you had worded things better or restructured your sentence, things might have went a different way.

I am not saying either of you are wrong or anything but it was just a big misunderstanding~. So how about we all just sit down & drink some tea~.
