the novel mentions that there's a theory that the demon race is actually made up of evolved monsters that mated with humans, so the wizard was trying to recreate this with fl, i'm assuming she might be one of these evolved monsters, so she's a bit like a demon before the term became demon or at least that's what i'm assuming so far
