I love the plot but still confused how did he ended up traveling time?? Ah.. Forget it ╮(￣▽￣)╭
Basically, a traumatic even caused him to slip thru the crack in the space time continuum, like when he hit his head the first time, so basically he time travelled to the future, then another traumatic even pushed him back, possible to fix the crack, and then he goods thru five years, and tried to end up in the same spot five years later
