Many modern romance literature use the characteristic of being different from the norm of society in their characters' dynamics. Social status, sexual orientation, gender, etc. Here, it is Zihao's interest in cross-dressing. Not many in their local community are similar to him. In this age, many still directly associate cross-dressing with being gay or trans. And some still see being queer in a negative light. Here, I see that Zihao is cis, but still sees wearing female clothes a big part of himself. So I'm very happy when over time Yu Ze made it clear to Zihao and himself that he likes Zihao however he looks. And I love the confidence they gained for being affectionate even outside with other people.
Both of their mothers are also very interesting. Zihao felt detached from his mother. I like that they didn't have just one big talk, their reconnection took many conversations. Yu Ze's mother, on the other hand, is more "sticky" to her son, sometimes being nosy and pushy of her son's life. But with her calm demeanor in finding that Yu Ze has a boyfriend, her biggest concern was if Zihao was serious about Yu Ze. Though in different terms, both mother's were willing to accept their children's happiness.
Ange's mother is a whole different level of stubbornness. I don't hate her character. I dislike her, but her personality fits in the shifts of arcs and perspectives. Same unaccepting antagonist, but more up front and aggressive. Ange is also under persecution of his mother; not being accepted for his want to pursue something that his parents think is not profitable for him. I'm glad Ange has a lot of others supporting him.
Also, I feel like Boss Jin/Kim (I am still confused which name is correct) is gender-fluid (though I am basing of off the translations here), where Ma would sometimes say that his boss is a man today. Boss is gender goals, really.
