Chapters 22 - 50 are actually the present. Jian Yi came back after 3 years of being gone and is living with Zhan Xi who is now in college (Jian Yi has to make up high school). While there's tension between them they seem to have made up. Also some special chapters (like the Christmas Special in Chapter 224) also take place during the present. So you see both couples are still together. The other chapters are flashbacks taking place during their third year of middle school, right before Jian Yi disappears.
