Hi
Can anyone please explain what’s the difference between Yaoi and BL?
And what is Manhua/ Manhwa?

Thanks!

    yaoi and bl is essentially getting same thing, the genre thats boys love. manhua is a Chinese comic, manhwa is a Korean comic, and manga is Japanese from my knowledge (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

    People say their isn't really a difference but to me yaoi is more bed scenes, and bl is like shounen ai more on the fluffy side focusing more on the relationship then the smut.

    Manhua= Chinese comics
    Manhwa= S Korean comics

    Hey! So a lot of people use BL and yaoi interchangeably but there’s a difference. Yaoi focuses mostly on sex where BL (boys love) focuses more on romance. A story can be both BL and yaoi (with both sexual and romantic plots) or just one or the other.

    Manhua is chineese
    Manhwa is Korean
    Manga is Japanese

    yaoi is basically boys love but its focused on the sex scene and not the plot and shounen ai(bl) is basically but just focused on the realtionship and the plot between two guys and without sex scenes
    AND manwhas are basicall comis from korean and manhuas are from china

    manhua is chinese comics, manhwa is korean comics. bl stands for boys love. I'm not 100% clear of what yaoi is, so ill let other people explain.

    Galhan04 April 13, 2021 9:04 pm

    Yaoi is more explicit then BL aka Shounen Ai but they’re both boys love stories. Manhua is Chinese originated comic and manhwa is Korean comics :) I hope this helps !

    Well, BL is the term used to describe the overall genre, while yaoi is a particular part of BL: a 'yaoi' series is one which visually depicts sexual acts: the opposite of shounen ai, which mostly shows the fluffy side of things/or purely a story between 2 boys (usually romantically involved with each other) who don't explore sex too much, at least not on screen. And as I mentioned before, BL is the whole genre by itself: that's why most people usually ask for 'BL recs', meaning they don't mind if it's shounen ai or yaoi.

    Manhwa is Korean, and Manhua is Chinese.

    Hope to have helped (●'◡'●)ノ

    Hi! Yaoi is a term for romantic and sexual attraction between two males and bl is the term for everything in general. (sorry if i got that wrong) :)

    BL (Boys Love) is the correct term to use. Yaoi is just a term that the west uses. What the west think yaoi means is BL with sex in it. Shounen-ai is BL with just romance, no sex (is what the west say it means). (That is why you see those tags in english websites like this one) No one in Japan or Korea uses yaoi, when it comes to their works. When they put the genre for romance between two men they put BL. If you go to a bookstore you will see in the cover, or in the spine of the book, BL, not yaoi.
