it may seem to be just one of your toxic yaois but no, it leans more on realism. from the characters, environment to circumstances these shits really do happen a LOT.
I said disgusting because reality is disgusting in a way... and I felt that this book is normalizing and romanticizing this toxicity but it's not yet finished so maybe they'll all have redemption arc of some kind.
so finally trying non yaoi/shounen ai mangas but i don't know which one to pick since all shoujo looks the same to me
Otomen is one of my favorite shoujos! The main character, Asuka, has very feminine hobbies, but he has to hide them because his mother pushes him to be super masculine.

Another one I loved was Library Wars. I read both of them in high school so I might've let a lot of things slide, but overall I think they were both pretty good.

I also don't read that much shoujo and prefer shounen-ai, but here are some shoujo-ais that I like:

I felt like the Mangaka did a sudden U-Turn at the end. it's just a speculation from me but I think the Mangaka initially intended for Matsuoka to die.
but anyway thankfully the story didn't end up that way.
