Since when is it forbidden to explore certain themes? You Americans are so self centered and out of touch it's hilarious. Stop trying to censor art just because it doesn 't suit your sensitive soft ass.

This comment is a joke right you’re joking, right don’t be fucking stupid. You complete imbecile nobody said it’s not OK for people to explore certain themes, but when the author is exploring themes and purposely skipping over the gruesome/egregious acts that is when it is caused for criticism, you’re a complete idiot because you refuse to acknowledge what people in the comments are saying the main lead is a Native American man, and he called himself a slave to a white man. Do you even know anything about history no native American with stand for that and the fact that the main character freed the slaves as if it was nothing the antebellum South still affects people who live in the USA today I live in Texas and I can guarantee you that the effects of slavery are still alive and well you stupid idiot talking about not being able to explore certain themes. Nobody said anything about that but because you can’t think critically, of course you thought that.

I feel like this is a little harsh, Americans are rightfully so worried about what this sensitive history can be distorted into by someone with little knowledge of it. Especially when it comes to a romance genre. It’s not self centered to be worried about YOUR OWN history. I do think this could go well, if jaxx did enough research and portrays the story with the sensitivity such history deserves, it could be a sort of educational moment, in a format everyone enjoys.

“It’s just fiction” is a lot easier to say when it’s not your history being sanitized and turned into a romantic premise. Dismissing people who criticize that as “soft” isn’t defending art, it’s dismissing the very real context behind it.
I’m not even American, and I can understand that much.
Imagine having all that context available and still missing the point. Try harder.

It’s insane how you’re doubling down and calling Americans Hypocrites for standing up for THEIR history.

Maybe your stupid non-American self can pick up a fucking book about how the Native American's and African's were treated back then. I can guaran-fucking-tee you that NONE of them would willingly call themselves a god damn slave without the threat of retribution from their slave owners.

I sure as shit know that the Cherokee didn't willingly walk themselves to a reservation across the Trail of Tears where hundreds of Cherokee men, women, and children died for their fucking health.

Those cowboys you're wanting the author to explore the theme of? The author should've watched the documentaries on how they would shoot any Native they saw because the Native Lakota and Navajo weren't seen as people back then.

Or how about how about hundreds of Native children being forced to go to schools taught by white people to "make them proper and respect God". They couldn't speak their mother language, they couldn't worship their own deities, and they were given white names all in a bid to turn them palatable to their white oppressors.

Do some damn research before you spew shit about us being a "sensitive soft ass" for acknowledging the hundreds of years of genocide a wide range of us are really starting to regret being a part of all because of the color of our skin.

Bruh don't teach me about slavery, the world' slave 'came literally from my ethnicity while ur grandpapa prob had slaves. But it's only problematic when the story takes place on your land.
Censoring art is any shape or form, or trying to, should be considered a form of opression, because in the end, who the fk are you to tell someone how they should or shouldn 't express themselves in an art form?

Freedom of doing whatever until it's something not suiting your narative huh.
That sounds like what a true opressor would do

Are you being obtuse on purpose ?
It’s not simply a question of slavery having existed throughout history, nor of different groups having participated in it at various times. The issue here is the historical sanitization and romanticization of a specific oppressor/oppressed relationship. When the dynamic is portrayed in a softened, nostalgic, or idealized way, it can obscure the realities of exploitation, coercion, and human suffering that defined the very real historical context.

And people would argue “but he freed the slaves, so he’s not even an oppressor,” and that’s exactly the problem, this is where the romanticization kicks in. It shifts the framing in a way that can gloss over the reality of the historical events and what it represented. And this isn’t even just about slavery in general, it’s about how sensitive historical settings like the Civil War era get handled and how fiction still carries responsibility in the way it deals with them.

Also, your take on “censorship of art is oppression” is flawed.
By that logic, even portraying something like p*dophilia in a positive or normalized way should be beyond criticism just because it’s “art.” And clearly that doesn’t hold up. Art isn’t immune from critique just because it’s art.
Because if you strip away all responsibility from art, then “it’s just art” becomes an excuse for literally anything, it's just just apologism dressed up as a justification.

    Valkyrie June 24, 2026 2:21 pm

Lmao this is so funny. Are you new to BL? 95% of bl themes are toxic and romanticizing not only past but actual issues that are currently happening.

Are you saying if I read a drawn story about a killer falling in love with his victim that I will not be able to distinguish the problem of it in real life? Common man, its like saying games induce murders and gun violence. Why dont you boycott all of it?

I mean what are you even doing here if you cannot recognize fictional couple? Criticism is fine, however saying author should die, everyone reading it should die, this story shouldn't be told... is a form of opression.

What was funny is how this trigger is selective while being ok with others

"Are you new to BL?” and “95% of BL is toxic” isn’t the gotcha you think it is lmao.
That’s not a counterargument, it’s deflection. I’m not talking about fiction vs reality, and I’m not shocked that toxic themes exist in BL, that’s unrelated ?
You literally didn’t understand the issue nor did you answer my points, which isn’t surprising seeing how you’re just deflecting and spouting nonsense and unrelated stuff that looks like arguments but has no real basis or substance.
The point is how a specific historical setting is framed and how it can get softened or glossed over in the narrative.

But again, you being a N*zi apologist speaks volumes, so keep acting like a clown.

Your one and only argument is that "It didn't just happen in your country" and you're failing to grasp the setting of the manhwa IS LTIERALLY IN MY COUNTRY. That makes it a United States set manhwa during the post-Civil War era.

I agree that censoring art in any way, shape, or form is oppressive because it's an expression of ones mind. There is a fine line between censoring art and then choosing to decide what to put it in to fit a narrative view from a place in history that you've done the bare minimum of research about.

As you probably know (you being the most knowledgeable about the history of slavery with your constant need to let everyone know that "it's not just in your country") that 6 million slaves were killed in America which is a high number for a new country as compared to the older European, Asian, and Arabian countries who turned slavery into an every day occurrence. Unless you were a freedom fighter that cared about equality for all, you didn't bat an eyelash at it.

You probably also knew that African-Americans were still killed post-abolishment just for standing there sometimes. Hell the three K's rose up because they wanted any POC to be put back to work doing what the white people were too lazy to do themselves which is why many POC's fled northward to escape the abuse they'd be subjected to in the south.

Course, Segregation didn't cure things at all. It wasn't until America really looked at itself and got fed up with the blatant racism being shoved into their faces in every workplace, restaurant, and ballpark that MLK stood up and did his great "I Have A Dream" speech.

So, please, sit down, open a book, and get of MGGO for a while. Educate yourself.
